Could the remaining Ranger fans be watching their last year of baseball in Arlington? After losing an embarrassing 3 of 4 games to divisional rival Oakland season ticket holders back in Texas began placing their remaining season tickets in convenience stores in hopes that someone would take them. It has been reported that several hours later, those tickets still remain. The Rangers regular season record is now 32-88, the worst in franchise history.
Ranger’s attendance this season has reduced well over 50% from game 1 and now into the last stretch of the season. One dedicated season ticket holder whom refuses to give up his tickets had this to say regarding his reason to hold onto them: “Why would I give them up? It is cheaper to come here than it is a bar with the reduced hot dog and beer prices. Plus, there is less hassle leaving the game than there is the bar.”
While that may be a bit exaggerated, it is definitely ugly in Arlington. Ranger’s owner Jeremy Byrd was asked if the Ranger’s could afford to remain Texas after this season and the question seemed to catch him off guard but after pausing finally answered, “Due to the sensitivity of this issue, I am not going to comment at this time.”
Rumors also stated high-price and all-star closer K-Rod was demanding to be traded after the season. He is apparently appalled at only being given 22 save opportunities in 120 games though he is responsible for saving 18 of the teams 32 wins.
There wasn’t much optimism in the meeting but the team is optimistic about the play of the teams young players and the upcoming draft which it seems now they have earned one of the top four picks. It also seems apparently, though not admitted by ownership, that the Ranger’s will have a new home next year and are simply awaiting commissioner approval.
