First baseman Miguel Cabrera went yard and had 3 RBI as the Detroit Tigers
outscored the Cleveland Indians 9 to 6.
Cabrera led the offense for Detroit. He belted a three-run homer (his 35th of
the season) in the 1st inning, doubled in the 3rd inning and slapped a single
in the 8th inning. Although they lost, Cleveland did out-hit Detroit 14 to
10.
The winning pitcher was Brandon Backe(5-5) who allowed 6 runs in 6 innings.
Todd Jones was credited with his 16th save. The loss was charged to Dustin
McGowan(0-5). He served up 4 gopher balls in 4 and 2/3 innings.
Detroit now has a record of 47-65. Still in a bad slump, with this loss,
Cleveland is 2-8 lately and 49-53 on the year.
