WEB GEMS- Bot 8th: Ryan Langerhans robbed Brandon Boggs of an extra base hit.
Ryan Spilborghs homered and had 2 RBI as the Detroit Tigers outscored the
Cleveland Indians 8 to 6.
Detroit took the lead for keeps in the top of the 2nd inning with 2 runs on 3
hits. After an out was recorded, Ryan Langerhans opened up the rally as he
laced a base-knock. Mark Buehrle then let one slip out of his hand for a
wild pitch. After another out, Curtis Granderson stepped in and he reached
on an error. Clint Barmes was up next and he lined a single. Doug
Mientkiewicz stepped into the box and slapped a one-base hit. Miguel Cabrera
got his chance to keep things going, but he went down on strikes. Cleveland
had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short.
The win went to Scott Kazmir(7-10) who allowed 1 run in 7 innings.
Buehrle(10-10) was charged with the loss. He was knocked around by Detroit,
allowing 13 hits and 3 walks in 9 innings.
Tom Fischer was in a talkative mood in the clubhouse, 'Great game! If only we
could win all of the close ones - wouldn't that be nice! Since that's not
going to happen, I think I'll savor this one for a little while.'
