WEB GEMS- Top 9th: Adrian Beltre robbed Rich Aurilia of a base hit.

In a tight game it was the Los Angeles(AL) Angels 7, the Minnesota Twins 5 at
Angels Stadium.

Los Angeles(AL) jumped on top to stay in the bottom of the 6th inning as they
scored 2 runs on 3 base hits. The Minnesota bats were silent in the 9th.

Ervin Santana(12-12) went 6 innings allowing 5 runs for the win. J.P. Howell
earned his 27th save. Matt Cain(11-11) was hit with the loss. He allowed a
few too many baserunners giving up 10 hits and 2 walks in 5 and 2/3 innings.

'I always am most impressed when a pitcher finds a way to win even without his
best stuff,' Rousel Glaciano said after the game. 'Santana did not have
command of his pitches most of the afternoon, but he proved he really knew
how to pitch!'

The powerful Minnesota Twins defeated the Los Angeles(AL) Angels by a score of
4 to 1 at Angels Stadium.

Minnesota erupted with the game winning runs in the top of the 8th inning with
3 runs utilizing 5 base hits. After an out was recorded, Ray Durham began
the rally when he laced a single. One out later, Jason Bay stepped in and he
hit a single. Justin Morneau then stroked a single. Melvin Mora came up and
he smacked a single. Joe Mauer stepped into the box and laced a base-hit.
Stephen Drew got his chance to keep things going, but he went down on
strikes. Both teams totaled 11 hits on the night.

Joey Devine(5-4) got the win allowing no runs in 1 and 2/3 innings. Devine was
helped out by Dan Wheeler who recorded his 8th save. Leo Nunez(6-6) was hit
with the loss in relief. He surrendered 2 hits and no walks in 1/3 of an
inning.

The Minnesota ballclub's record now stands at 88-54. Los Angeles(AL) will
hope that this loss is only a 'blip' on their recent 8-2 run - and not a
start of a new trend.

Justin Verlander delivered 8 solid innings at Comerica Park as the Detroit
Tigers, running on all cylinders, ripped the Kansas City Royals by a large 15
to 5 margin.

Aramis Ramirez enjoyed a fine day at the plate. He electrified the crowd with
a Grand Slam home run (his 22nd of the season) in the 2nd inning, doubled in
the 4th inning and doubled in the 7th inning. Detroit provided plenty of
action in the 2nd inning when they had 7 runs on 4 hits and the 6th inning
with 5 runs on 6 hits. Detroit had 18 hits for the afternoon while Kansas
City had 8.

Verlander(8-14) got credit for the victory, pitching 8 innings and allowing 1
run. Jeff Suppan(10-8) was hit with the loss. He was unable to control the
Detroit offense and allowed 12 hits and 5 walks in 5 and 1/3 innings.
