Brad Hawpe has not been hitting that well, and manager Tom Fischer says he is contemplating shaking things up in the lineup. Since Hawpe is batting a lousy .240 with no homeruns in 75 at bats, he will likely slide a couple spots in the Tigers lineup over the next few games to see how he does batting lower in the lineup. The Tigers are not considering abandoning ship just yet, but with only 8 wins in their first 21 games, they are fading pretty quickly.
Over the first sixteen games of the season, Pedro Martinez has pitched quite well by Detroit standards and yet he sits with an 0-3 record and 4.05 ERA. Pedro started against three pretty tough teams, the Royals, Red Sox, and Indians and despite allowing just 12 runs (three of which were unearned due to fielding errors) Martinez has only gotten an average of 2.33 runs per game from his offense. This is interesting since the Tigers overall are averaging over 5 runs per game on offense, they just are not scoring runs for Pedro.
