WEB GEMS- Top 8th: Ichiro Suzuki robbed Ryan Doumit of a Homerun!

Tim Redding allowed Marc Arnold to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game
and Ryan Doumit connected with a 'big fly' and had 3 RBI as the Pittsburgh
Pirates man-handled the Arizona Diamondbacks - the final score was 12 to
1.

Arizona fell behind quickly as the Pittsburgh offense came through in the
first inning scoring 5 runners on 5 hits. That early scoring was all that
Redding(3-6) needed. Pittsburgh finished with 18 hits in the victory.

Joe Saunders(3-7) was charged with the loss. He was unable to control the
Pittsburgh offense and allowed 11 hits and 3 walks in 5 and 2/3 innings.

With the crowd on their collective feet, screaming at the top of their lungs,
Arizona Diamondbacks rallied to top Pittsburgh Pirates by the score of 6 to
5.

Arizona scored the decisive runs in a big 9th inning scoring 2 runs. Ichiro
Suzuki opened up the inning nicely when he reached on an error. Miguel
Tejada followed and he popped a two-run clout over the fence (his 1st of the
season) giving Arizona the win and sending the home town fans into a frenzy.
Arizona had 11 hits for the night while Pittsburgh had 7.

Yusmeiro Petit(2-1) went 1 inning allowing no runs for the win. Jose
Valverde(1-3) took the loss in relief. He surrendered 1 hit and no walks
without retiring a batter.

'Now there is a lesson in perseverance for you,' Alex Rios noted. 'It was
looking pretty dim there for a while, but we just kept plugging away and it
really paid off in spades! And it was great to see the crowd go crazy there
at the end!'

Alex Rios lofted one into the 'cheap seats' and had 2 RBI at Chase Field as
the Arizona Diamondbacks won in dramatic fashion coming back to beat the
Pittsburgh Pirates by the count of 10 to 9.

Arizona erupted with the game winning runs in the bottom of the 9th inning
when they tallied 5 runs on 3 hits. The key offensive moment was provided by
Raul Ibanez who thrilled the crowd when he laced a single plating two runs.
This was the kind of game that many fans love as the lead changed hands 5
times.

Joakim Soria(2-0) allowed 5 runs in 1 inning, and picked up the victory. The
loss was charged to Jose Valverde(1-2) in relief. He pitched 1/3 of an
inning and surrendered 1 hit and 2 walks.

New York (AL) fell behind quickly as the Detroit offense came through in the
first inning scoring 4 runners on 5 hits. That early scoring was all that
Miner needed. Detroit had 13 hits for the game and New York (AL) had 5.

John Maine(7-5) took the loss. He served up 4 gopher balls in 5 innings.
